Bathroom remodeling in the Bronx

Bathroom remodeling across the Bronx, where the room has usually been done at least once already.

a bathroom stripped to substrate with waterproofing being applied

A bathroom is a small room with every trade in it, in an order that cannot be rearranged. In this borough it is also a room that has usually been redone before, and what the last person did decides how this one starts.

What the last renovation left

The common finds are tile fixed over older tile, a pan bedded on a base that has been weeping quietly for years, and no waterproof membrane anywhere because it was not required when the work was done.

We take it back to a substrate we can waterproof, run a membrane across the whole wet area, and tile onto that.

Over a second unit

In a two family the bathroom is often above the other household rather than above your own living room. That raises the cost of a leak from an inconvenience to a dispute, so the detail at the pan, the curb and the wall junctions is where the care goes.

What drives the cost

Whether fittings stay where they are, whether the subfloor has to be rebuilt, the tile and the amount of cutting, and whether anything moves.

Questions people ask

How long will the bathroom be out of use?

We give you a run of days rather than a project length, set at the visit once the substrate is visible. Where the house has a second bathroom it is rarely a problem, and where it does not we front load everything that can be done with the room still working.

Can you fix it without redoing the whole room?

Sometimes, and we will say so. Where the failure is behind the tiling rather than in it, a partial repair is money spent twice, and we would rather tell you that at the visit.
